The highlight of this park is the hidden redwood forest tucked into a canyon over the ridge from Oakland. The forest is also rich with sword ferns, eucalyptus and bays.

Little Yosemite is a scenic gorge on Alameda Creek about two miles upstream from park headquarters. It features giant heaps of metamorphic boulders, the results of ancient rock slide.
Sunol’s Little Yosemite hike can have gorgeous waterfalls and pools which seem to attract cub scouts like a magnet. Alameda Creek is the county's largest stream and hosts an attractive community of trees including alder, willow, sycamore and bay laurel. The nearby valley abound with coastal live oak, blue and valley oak, elderberry, madrone, and California buckeye. During spring, the hills come alive with a variety of colorful wildflowers. A wildflower identification kit may be checked out at the visitor center.

Highlanders Hike at Briones- Sunday, November 16, 2014 2pm

12:30p.m.. If you want to meet us at the trail head let me know.

With its rolling, grassy hills and secluded, shady canyons, Briones is a
secret wilderness surrounded by home to many animals and birds, which forage
on the grasslands or find shelter among the oaks and bays. You may see
black-tailed deer, coyotes, squirrels, red-tailed hawks, turkey vultures
and, if you are lucky, other more reclusive creatures. There are gorgeous
wildflower displays in season.

We will meet at the Park and Ride behind Chevron off of Bollinger Avenue at 8:30 a.m.

We have some beautiful evergreens here in the Berkeley Hills. This is a gorgeous hike, about 4.5 miles easy/moderate.

Don't forget to bring water, a hat, and a snack!

The big patch for Trekkers is different from the patch from Highlanders. So here is opportunity to get both big patches if you got Highlanders last month.

Highlanders Hike on Los Trampas- Sunday, September 28, 2014, 9am

This is the only hike we will meet at trail head. We will start hiking at 9a.m.. Los Trampas is at the end of Bollinger Canyon Blvd. The end of Bollinger from our school, would be a right on Bollinger, past Crow Canyon till it ends. Shortly after Crow Canyon you will not get cell phone reception.


We will hike out the fire road (it's the road that would be Bollinger if it did not end) we will go to the gate and check out the vistas. Then we will hike back by the trail in the woods. It is a very cool and close trail.

Trail Trekker May Hike- Hoot Owl, Livermore Friday May 16 6:30 pm

We will meet at the park and ride behind the chevron on Bollinger & San Ramon Valley Blvd. at 6:30p.m..

Space is limited to 20 including parent.

1 to 1 1/2 miles round trip Time: Allow about 11/2 -2 hours for program and hike Grade: Flat

This is a very cool ranger led hike that takes place at night so we can try to see some owls (it has been my experience that we usually do). The scouts will also learn how we need light to see color.

Using your eyes, nose and ears, you will be on the lookout for the nocturnal inhabitants of Sycamore Grove Park. Wear sturdy shoes, dress in dark colors, dress warmly, and be prepared to hike or sit quietly for a time.

NOTE:  Total cost is $190, to be split among participants.
