Highlanders Hike on Los Trampas- Sunday, September 28, 2014, 9am

DATE: 9/28/2014
TIME: 9am
LOCATION: Los Trampas Regional Park
MORE INFO: Kirsten Hayden- kirstenhayden@att.net

This is the only hike we will meet at trail head. We will start hiking at 9a.m.. Los Trampas is at the end of Bollinger Canyon Blvd. The end of Bollinger from our school, would be a right on Bollinger, past Crow Canyon till it ends. Shortly after Crow Canyon you will not get cell phone reception.

We will hike out the fire road (it's the road that would be Bollinger if it did not end) we will go to the gate and check out the vistas. Then we will hike back by the trail in the woods. It is a very cool and close trail.

Trail Trekker May Hike- Hoot Owl, Livermore Friday May 16 6:30 pm

We will meet at the park and ride behind the chevron on Bollinger & San Ramon Valley Blvd. at 6:30p.m..

Space is limited to 20 including parent.

1 to 1 1/2 miles round trip Time: Allow about 11/2 -2 hours for program and hike Grade: Flat

This is a very cool ranger led hike that takes place at night so we can try to see some owls (it has been my experience that we usually do). The scouts will also learn how we need light to see color.

Using your eyes, nose and ears, you will be on the lookout for the nocturnal inhabitants of Sycamore Grove Park. Wear sturdy shoes, dress in dark colors, dress warmly, and be prepared to hike or sit quietly for a time.

NOTE:  Total cost is $190, to be split among participants.

Trail Trekkers April Hike- Little Yosemite, Sunol Sunday, April 27 9:30 am

We will meet at the park and ride behind the chevron on Bollinger & San Ramon Valley Blvd. at 9:30a.m..

This is a fairly easy 4 mile hike.

Little Yosemite is a scenic gorge on Alameda Creek about two miles upstream from park headquarters. It features giant heaps of metamorphic boulders, the results of ancient rock slide. The gorgeous waterfalls and pools here seem to attract cub scouts like a magnet.

The nearby valley abound with coastal live oak, blue and valley oak, elderberry, madrone, and California buckeye. During spring, the hills come alive with a variety of colorful wildflowers.
